Body Massage

Recognised as a popular, general purpose system of massage in the West, traditional body massage or Swedish massage is the foundation for all other massage therapies.
Based on Western concepts of Anatomy & Physiology as opposed to energy work on “Meridians” such as Reflexology or “Sen Lines” that are the focus of Asian massage therapies, Traditional Body Massage has many benefits:
- Massage can have a soothing or stimulating effect on the sensory nerve endings, dependant on the techniques applied.
- Blood circulation can be improved as direct pressure improves the circulation whilst massage stimulates the nerves that control blood vessels, speeding the interchange of oxygen & nutrients, carbon dioxide & metabolic waste products.
- The flow of lymph may be enhanced this aiding in the elimination of toxins.
- Muscles will be eased & relaxed due to the removal of waste products via the lymph & general circulation.
- The digestion may also benefit with constipation eased should the abdomen be massaged.
- Fatty deposits may be softened depending on the techniques used.
- The skin will be nourished & softened by the application of massage oil or lotion.
- A general feeling of well-being can be achieved: a sense of calm & relaxation may prevail.
Upon consultation, you therapist will ask several questions which will include the depth of massage pressure you require & if you would prefer a pure relaxation massage or a more stimulating treatment. The differences between the two options will be explained in order to assist your decision in selecting the right massage for your needs.
Please let us know during the consultation if there are any specific areas where you are experiencing discomfort or muscle tension & where you would prefer some additional massage to be applied.
