Sports, Remedial & Deep Tissue Massage

Woman receiving leg massage.

After a crisis!

So you have been out on your cycle & over done it! Your body is crying out for relief & a little tender loving care. Or maybe you are going through a stressful period at work & your shoulders are getting nearer to your ears. You feel as though the weight of the whole world is resting on your shoulders & there is a constant niggling ache that feels like an elephant doing a clog dance on the back of your eye balls. Or perhaps you have ankle pain that just seems to come & go at will & usually when it is most inconvenient. Or possibly an old football injury that has left your knee a little bit dodgy!

Sports, Remedial & Deep Tissue Massage may be able to bring relief to all of the above conditions. Consider a visit to your local Sports Massage practitioner, who uses many established massage techniques, but usually applied at a deeper level to break down adhesions, fibrous & muscular scar tissue & promote flexibility within the muscle. Some additional, more advanced techniques may be required to treat specific areas where adhesions are particularly difficult to eliminate or advanced stretching methods utilised, to return muscles to their correct length over a period of time, so that the body can regain its correct & natural balance. Aid Circulation

Sports Massage will also aid general & micro circulation, lymphatic flow (the waste removal system that acts rather like a dustcart travelling around the body) & the nervous system. However, unlike many beauty treatments there is no set routine applied, as the Therapist will be using techniques directly related to your needs as an individual, which he or she will ascertain in consultation prior to any treatment being given. You may be given specific gentle exercises to do at home & further assist the healing process prior to your next visit. He or she may wish to liase with another professional, with your permission, such as a GP or an Osteopath / Physiotherapist, to provide the best overall treatment for your particular condition.

However these treatments are not reserved solely for sports men & women, but for those who wish to keep their bodies in good condition, strong, flexible & relaxed. Having said all that, I can say from personal experience that Sports Massage after a strenuous event can speed the recovery process dramatically & can be most pleasant & rewarding. I have been “on the treatment couch” after completing the London Marathon on several occasions & have still been sufficiently mobile to teach my exercise classes the next day (albeit at a gentle pace!)
